Dad Accused of Beating Daughter Over School Work

A dad from Stamford has been arrested, accused of attacking his teenage daughter because she did not start working on a school project early enough.

The teen's stepmother was also arrested, accused of doing nothing to stop the attack, Telemundo reports.

The girl was home on Tuesday, working on a school project and her father, Carlos Chaparro, 38, became angry because he thought she should have started working on the project earlier, News 12 reports.

Cops told News 12 that Chaparro, who has a criminal record, choked his daughter and punched her, leaving her with bruises on her face, eyes and lips and choke marks on her neck.

Yellka Chaparro, the girl's 28-year-old stepmom, was home and did not try to stop the attack, police told Telemundo.

The girl went to the hospital when her 17-year-old brother found her. She was treated then released, News 12 reports.

Stepmom and dad appeared in court on Friday.

The couple has six children and all of them are in DCF custody. Carlos is the father of the three older children, including the teen girl. The three younger children are the couple's.

Carlos has a previous conviction for armed robbery. His bond was set at $25,000.

Yellka was arraigned and released on $10,000 bond.
