Decapitated Animals' Heads Found in New Canaan

Police are investigating after decapitated animal heads were found outside New Canaan homes last week.

On Oct. 14, the decapitated head of a black cat was found at the end of Laurel Road driveway. The next day, the resident of a nearby home reported his or her black cat missing. Police said they believe it is the same cat and that the decapitation is the work of a person rather than an animal.

It happened again just a few days later. Police said a bird’s head turned up Oct. 17 on Autumn Lane. The resident who made the discovery told police that at first she didn’t think twice about it. Then she heard about the cat and called police.

Police said they believe the decapitations are related. They’re working to determine who is behind this and why.

“Someone is doing something,” said the resident who found the bird head. “I don’t know what is going on. Police say it was clearly severed, not that an animal had done it.”

Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to contact New Canaan police at 203-594-3544.
