Demolition After Destruction

Demolition is under way on the old apartment house in Norwich that was ravaged by a fierce fire Sunday.

Authorities do not know the cause of the fire that injured a resident and two fire fighters.

Judith Evans, 64, remained in critical condition at Bridgeport Hospital Tuesday. She was burned before rescuers could pull her out of her apartment, where the fire seems to have started, neighbors said.

When firefighters arrived, fire was coming from the windows of the building, which contains eight apartments and the Sunshine Farms store. All 30 tenants were out of the building by the time firefighters arrived.

Two firefighters were injured as they checked to make sure everyone was out after fire swept across the building through the attic.

The owner of the building and the Sunshine Farms convenience store, Sami Ahmed said whether he rebuilds depends on the insurance payment.

The pastor of Greeneville Congregational Church, Rev. Gregory Perry, hopes that something good will come out of something so bad.
