In a review of designer Cynthia Rowley's 2012 Resort collection, Women's Wear Daily reveals that the low-key yet playful range is inspired by a dinosaur that lives in Greenwich. Specifically, a life-size painting of a T-Rex by emerging contemporary artist Josh Smith.
"It’s meant to look like you took a highlighter and scratched all over the traditional embroidery,” explained Rowley, noting the bold pre-historic motifs, bone patterns, and fang jewelry. The art-loving designer will also release a series of limited edition prints by Smith at her art retail space, Exhibition A in Manhattan this July.
Back home, local patrons of pretty things can check out the pre-historic muse in person (along with additional works by Smith) through November at the Brant Foundation. But you'll have to shop the whimsical collection online--because while we've got a free-standing Rex, we've yet to get a local Rowley.
