Ex-Winchester Official Sentenced in Larceny Case

The former finance director of Winchester was sentenced today on larceny charges stemming from the theft of more than $2 million.

According to the Litchfield Judicial Court, Henry Centrella Jr. was sentenced to 20 years in prison, suspended  after 11 years followed by five years probation.

In January, Cintrella plead guilty to five counts of first-degree larceny in exchange for a plea deal.

Centrella stole about $2.1 million over several years from the town of Winchester.

Centrella had significant gambling losses and was sending money to a mistress in Florida, according to officials.

Winchester officials said the theft had a serious impact on the town's finances, contributing to the need for a special tax on residents.
