Huskies Beat Seton Hall, Ready for Baylor

UConn has 9 days to prepare for the Bears

For the eighth time in nine games, the UConn women won a basketball game by at least 30 points. One of those victories came on Dec. 6 against Texas A&M, the defending national champions. And the Huskies' only "close" win was a 10-point affair versus Stanford back on Nov. 21.

On Friday, UConn whipped Seton Hall, 70-37 in their first Big East game of the season, and now they'll have nine days off to prepare for Baylor in a primetime nationally televised game.

Against the Pirates, Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, Tiffany Hayes and Caroline Doty all scored 15 points, and the game was over shortly after it started: the Huskies scored the first 20 points, including four 3-pointers. Seton Hall, meanwhile, didn't register its first basket until 11:33 had expired and they had attempted (and missed) 14 shots.

Despite the score, however, the Huskies weren't particularly sharp. They shot just 37.7 percent from the field, including 29.6 percent in the second half. But it's all relative; the Pirates converted just nine field goals in the final 20 minutes which works out to 20.9 percent.

"To say there was a little bit of everything tonight would be an understatement," Geno Auriemma said, via the Hartford Courant. "It was really weird. … I don't even know how to describe it. The game had almost no flow to it."

The Huskies managed just 11 points in the first 13 minutes of the second half, and then went nine minutes without scoring. As you might imagine, this development did not make Auriemma happy.

"If you are Seton Hall and building a program and don't have the offensive players we have, it's one thing," Auriemma said. "But there was no excuse for us to go nine minutes without scoring. That's inexcusable."

"We are not used to that," Doty added. "I guess we got kind of lackadaisical."

Lethargy is one thing against Seton Hall. Against Baylor on Dec. 18, it will be a different story. But we suspect Auriemma will have his team ready to play well before then.
