Since word got out yesterday that a West Hartford jewelry store is giving free jewelry to people who lost their jobs, people are rushing for bling.
DeRobertis Jewelers of West Hartford is giving away 100 necklaces Wednesday to people who have lost their jobs or their homes. The store opened at 9:30 a.m. Before 9 a.m., there were already people waiting and the giveaway had not even started yet.
As of 11 a.m., there were still about 70 necklaces up for grabs.
Owner Gene DeRobertis says he owes the community a lot for allowing them to stay in business for the last four decades, so he wants to give something back in these difficult economic times.
The necklaces are sterling silver and range in value from $50 to $99 each.
To get your free necklace, show up at DeRobertis Jewelers at 52 LaSalle Rd. in West Hartford Wednesday with your termination or foreclosure notice, and personal identification, such as a driver's license.
