Multiple Water Main Breaks Wreak Havoc

Warmer temperatures cause water mains to burst in Hartford

The Metropolitan District Commission had its hands full Tuesday, after a number of water main breaks across the Capital City.

One of the largest breaks occurred just after 7:00 a.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Homestead Avenue and Baltimore Street.  Part of Baltimore Street had to be closed while repairs to the main were made.

A wheel of a school bus was caught in the water and seven students had to be transferred onto another bus.  None of the children were hurt.  People in the immediate area did not have water.

Earlier Tuesday morning, crews investigated a water main break on Florence Street between East Street and Fairmont Street.  It happened just after 2:00am.  People in the immediate area of the break lost water.

And in Windsor, just after 8:00 a.m., the MDC reported another break on Woodland Street.
