Man Found Down Embankment Was Shot

The Bridgeport man whose body was found in a car that had gone down an embankment in West Haven Saturday night was shot to death.

Police were called to a commuter lot just off Interstate-95 southbound around 11:30 p.m. and found Tremaine Newton, 20, of Bridgeport in a car that looked like it had gone down an embankment. The car was covered in foliage, according to police.

"The injuries that we initially have seen are not consistent with something that you would see in a motor vehicle accident," State Police Lt. William Baldwin said over the weekend.

The Chief State's Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and concluded Newton died from a gunshot.
