ME: Stunned Man Stabbed Himself to Death

The medical examiner determined that a man who died after a confrontation with police in South Windsor killed himself.

The chief medical examiner's office conducted an autopsy Monday on the body of Derrek Kairney, 36, of Birch Road.

Police were called to his house over the weekend. When they arrived, Kairney had a knife. Cops ordered him to drop the knife, but he refused and police shocked him with a Taser.

Before cops shocked Kairney with a stun gun, he stabbed himself in the chest, police said.

He later died Manchester Memorial Hospital.
