Mom Accused of Beating Twins With A Stick

A 30-year-old West Hartford woman will appear in court Wednesday, accused of hitting her twin teenage daughters with a stick and possibly abusing them over a period of time.

One of the girls approached a school counselor at Sedgwick Middle School on Tuesday morning crying and said she did not want to talk without her twin sister beside her.

The two girls said their mother, Sandra Cedeno, had hit them with a stick. The twins had welts and bruises on the arms, police said. The bruises appeared to be different stages of healing, indicating that the abuse occurred over a period of time, police said.

Officials from the state Department of Children and Families interviewed the girls and their parents for hours, before calling police. Detectives recovered a wooden stick that police said Cedeno might have used to hit the girls.

Cedeno was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor and two counts of assault. She was released on a $5,000 bond.

The teens were taken into temporary custody. Two other children, a 16 year old and a 6 year old, were left in the home.
