Police Investigate Possible Hazmat Death in Bloomfield

One person has died in Bloomfield in what police are calling an "untimely death under unusual circumstances" potentially involving hazardous materials.

Police took a report of a suspicious vehicle and went to checked it out at about 10:15 a.m., when they saw a body in the car and stepped back because of the strong chemical odor, police said.

The bomb squad and state Department of Environmental Protection are checking to see if the fumes are hazardous, Capt. Jeff Blatter said.

Blatter did not provide the victim’s name but said she is in her 40s and was reported missing in another town.
