Jurors Hear Disturbing Komisarjevsky Diary Entries

The man accused of being Steven Hayes’ accomplice in the slayings of Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her two daughters during a night of terror in their home in 2007 kept four journals filled with disturbing rants.

On Tuesday, the jury heard entries read in court in which Joshua Komisarjevsky calls himself a "brazen" master burglar whose life "is defined by risk."

"I was faced with shocking realization that in some respects, I enjoyed it," one disturbing entry reads, according to court testimony.

Another entry referred to Hayley Petit as a fighter, saying she tried to break free and help her family.  But Komisarjevsky called Dr. William Petit a coward for not doing more for his wife and daughters.

Outside court Dr. Petit said he would not dignify the ramblings of a "sociopath".

The jury listened to excerpts as they face the decision of whether to sentence Hayes to death by lethal injection to life in prison with no chance for parole.

Hayes, 47, was convicted of 16 counts for the 2007 killings in Cheshire.

Komisarjevsky is the co-defendant. His trial has not yet begun.

Hayes’ attorneys are trying to convince a jury to spare him the death penalty by portraying him as a clumsy thief driven by a powerful drug addiction and Komisarjevsky as a more calculating co-defendant whom one witness compared to the devil.

Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her daughters, Hayley, 17, and Michaela, 11, were killed in their home in Cheshire in 2007.

Komisarjevsky is accused of raping Michaela.

"You call me from beyond the grave," he wrote of her. "I can't believe I lost control. How could I turned my back knowing your fear."

The penalty phase began nearly two weeks after Hayes was convicted.
