Report: UConn to Play at Yankee Stadium in 2014

A year after rumors surfaced that the Huskies could play a football game at Fenway Park, it now appears that the venue might take place at the home of the Red Sox's biggest rival.

Details via The Times Record-Herald:

Army athletic director Boo Corrigan said the Black Knights will fulfill their five-game agreement with the Yankees by playing Connecticut, Rutgers and possibly Notre Dame in the Bronx over the next three seasons.

UConn would play Army at Yankee Stadium in 2014.

Corrigan explained the decision to host five games in the Bronx.

"Our goal is to play people that we look like, that have a similar-type mission that we do," he said. "As you look at that, be it Rice, be it Tulane, be it Duke, be it Wake Forest, playing some of our more traditional rivals with a Colgate or an Ivy or other Patriot League teams mixed in there, it's going very well. We are excited about that. …

"As you look who it is and who West Point is, people want to play us," Corrigan said. "There's no shortage of those teams that I mentioned or bigger schools that want to play West Point. We help fill stadiums. We have a role in college football and a place in college football."

The New Haven Register reports that the Army should fill out the Huskies' non-conference schedule for 2014; UConn will host BYU on Aug. 28, 2014, Stony Brook on Sept. 6 and Boise St. on Sept. 13.
