Richter's, a New Haven institution and popular Yalie haunt that shuttered its doors on June 25, will reopen later this fall under the ownership of 116 Crown's John and Danielle Ginetti. It's a huge boon to the city's bar scene, as the pub had been in operation since the mid-nineteenth century, first as part of the New Haven Hotel, then the Taft Tap Room, and finally its latest incarnation, which opened in 1982.
Revamping Richter's will be a laborious project, but Ginetti's inclusion provides the requisite credibility: His restaurant and cocktail lounge, 116 Crown, is one of the most popular and consistent nightlife hubs in New Haven and he's long been recognized as the city's top mixologist. According to the Yale Daily News, Ginetti is going to upgrade the space, but keep most of the bar's traditional architecture (and memorabilia) intact. "It's kind of like an antique," Ginetti told YDN. "You don't actually own Richter's, you just pass it on."
