Sarah Jessica Parker Comes to Haddam

She's honoring the creators of "Annie" at The Goodspeed this weekend.

Sarah Jessica Parker will take a trip out of the city Saturday, to join a celebration in Haddam.

Parker will present The Goodspeed Award for Outstanding Contribution to Musical theater to the creators of the musical "Annie". She has a special tie to the show, Parker portrayed the famous orphan in the original run of "Annie" on Broadway in 1979. She was the third girl to play the role on Broadway.

But before "Annie" made it to the Great White Way, creators Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin held the world premiere of their show about a little girl and her dog at Haddam's Goodspeed Opera House in 1976.

Parker, of course went on to star on television and movies, including her most famous role, Carrie Bradshaw, on "Sex and the City".

She will present Meehan, Strouse and Charnin with the award at a gala at the Riverhouse at Goodspeed Station at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Also on hand for the gala will be Andrea McArdle, who originated the role of "Annie" at The Goodspeed and on Broadway.
