Special Olympics Connecticut will be hosting the 2019 Summer Games at four locations throughout New Haven County beginning this Friday, June 7, through Sunday, June 9.
The Summer Games offer athletes of all abilities from across the state the opportunity to compete in sports and demonstrate what they can achieve after training in their sport with their local team for a season.
All events are free and open to the public. More than 2,500 athletes, assisted by over 400 coaches and over 2,000 volunteers will be participating.
Opening ceremonies kick off at Southern Connecticut State University’s Jess Dow Field on Friday, June 7 at 7:15 p.m. NBC Connecticut’s Ryan Hanrahan and Shannon Miller will be in attendance to emcee the event.
Events run from about 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. to about 3-4 p.m. on Sunday. Locations include:
Southern Connecticut State University, 200 Wintergreen Avenue, New Haven– Swimming, Race Walking, Wheelchair Races, High Jump and Tennis.
Yale DeWitt Cuyler Athletic Complex, 252 Derby Avenue, West Haven – Track & Field competition
Yale West Campus, 100 West Campus Drive, Orange – Cycling competition
Hamden Hall Country Day School Skiff Street Athletic Complex – Developmental Swimming (Friday afternoon only) and Soccer competition
Southern Connecticut State University’s Michael Adanti Student Center will host Healthy Athletes Village, where participating athletes may receive free health screenings including dental, hearing, vision, and dermatology screenings.
