A New Milford teen accused in the brutal attack of a 25-year-old New Milford woman is being charged with home invasion, in addition to sexual assault, first-degree burglary and first-degree strangulation.
Elias Garcia, 15, will be tried as an adult for charges that he attacked the victim as she was sleeping in her condo, the Register Citizen reports. The home invasion charge was recently added, the newspaper reports.
On Aug. 7, the woman was asleep and woke to find a man's figure standing at the foot of her bed. The assailant pulled her to the floor and choked her, police said. After a struggle, she passed out. When she awoke, she was alone and her clothing had been removed, according to police.
Elias Garcia remains in custody at Mason Youth Institution and is due back in court on Oct. 18.
