Connecticut’s “Voice” An iTunes Hit

Javier Colon

Sure he can sing, but does he have "The Voice?" A Connecticut man is hoping his set of pipes will help propel him to singing stardom, and he has a good start.

Stratford native and current West Hartford resident Javier Colon is a contestant on the new NBC talent show "The Voice."

Give one listen to Javier singing and you can tell the man's got talent, and that was enough to wow Christina Aguilera, Cee-lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. They all decided they want to work with him.

But it would appear that Javier is more than just a voice. The graduate of the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford excelled at not only singing, but also writing and performing. His style is described as an eclectic blend of R&B, folk, soul, rock and country. He's even spent some time singing with the Derek Trucks Band, led by Allman Brothers guitarist Derek Trucks.

Now, he's taking the stage on his own, to sing to some of the biggest names in music, with only his voice to carry him.  And from the fact that he appears in a commercial for the show, Javier might be in it for the long haul.

Cee-lo can even be heard in the spot saying, "I want you on my team." However, he chose to work with Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine.

Apparently America liked Colon's performance as well.  His version of Cindi Lauper's "Time After Time," which he performed on "The Voice" Tuesday night, has jumped to No. 43 on the iTunes top 100 downloads.
