Adapted from the Broadway musical, the silver screen version of "Rock of Ages" promises to be a wild romp through the classic '80s rock scene. If nothing else, who isn't at least a bit curious about Tom Cruise (starring as burnt-out rock hero, Stacee Jaxx) clad in fur coats and navy bandannas?

Style-wise, the film offers the very best (or very worst, depending on how you look at it) of '80s heavy metal fashion, from Russell Brand's teased-up mullet to Alec Baldwin's leopard-print tunic tops.

Stacee Jaxx's penchant for leather jackets and cowboy hats may feel like a sartorial stretch, but who knows, the look could make a comeback at the men's shows this summer.

As for the ladies, the '80s rock scene was all about tight pants, bright colors and spectacularly big hair. Here, Mary J. Blige (as Justice Charlier) shows off her curves in a red jumpsuit with a gold lame panel.

After getting so much on-screen exposure with actress Julianne Hough (who plays Sherrie Christian in the film), we're betting hoop earrings and rockabilly hair become a lot more noticeable this fall.

Gaultier looked to the rock 'n' roll this season with a collection devoted entirely to the late songstress Amy Winehouse. Here, a slouchy tux look with a beaded black vest and (of course) big hoop earrings.

On the glam rock end of the spectrum, Givenchy offered up silver lame suits and cool skirted jackets for spring (we think David Bowie would approve).

Lanvin's collections often have a goth-rock vibe, and the big crucifix necklaces and choker chains drove the look home for spring 2012.

A studded sleeveless cocktail dress from Isabel Marant felt fresh and easy to wear but with just enough of that rock 'n' roll swagger.

Balmain's elaborate beaded tops and fitted leather trousers would have been right at home on some wailing '80s rock heartthrob.

Likewise, Roberto Cavalli's elaborate gold python trousers are practically begging to be styled with one of Stacee Jaxx's big cowboy hats.

Anna Sui's collections often have a rock-goddess vibe. This look fit the bill perfectly with exaggerated red "star" motifs on the hotpants and matching denim cap.

When it comes to stage-ready ensembles, rockers needn't look further than Jeremy Scott, who offered up this flame-finished pleather look with a matching fringe vest.

Finished with perforated leather, Alexander Wang's leather crop top and pencil skirt combo has plenty of '80s edge.

Of course, eccentric rockers need threads, too, and for them we propose Prabal Garang's bright purple trousers and digital print top, which were styled with matching purple cat-eye shades on the runway.
