The next young filmmaker’s career could take off next month, and Trinity College could be the launching point.
On May 5, the college’s Cinestudio Theater will host the Trinity Film Festival, a contest that was open to undergraduates across the country.
The festival’s website says its goal is “to bring together student filmmakers from the northeast and all over the country” and to give these students a means of showing their work.
The event will be highlighted by a red carpet award banquet, where guests and contestants can celebrate the filmmakers’ hard work while the judges come to their decisions.
Among the festival’s endorsers is writer/director Stephen Gyllenhaal, father of actors Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal. The elder Gyllenhaal graduated from Trinity in 1972.
The panel of five judges will include former Casting Society of America president Mary Buck, who has been nominated twice for an Emmy Award. Buck will be joined by Michael Hanley, a Trinity alumnus who was one of the co-founders of Cinestudio in 1970.
Opening night is May 4 and the film festival will be on May 5.
