What You're Doing Tonight: May 13

Who doesn't love a springtime stroll? Throw in some gourmet food and you've got yourself an evening!

More than 50 downtown New London eateries are participating in Main Street's Spring Food Stroll tonight from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The seaside stroll through the city's historic waterfront district promises to be a culinary extravaganza.

Foodies will get to sample the signature dishes (everything from appetizers to desserts) of some of New London's best restaurants. You can also taste the best food local chefs have to offer as they compete in the first Food Stroll Culinary Competition.  Participating restaurants will be judged by top chefs from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I..

It only costs $30 for an admission button to get into the stroll, which includes a free drink coupon. Student buttons cost just $20 (sorry kids, no booze for you). The Water Street Garage will offer half-price parking.

Turning from food to tunes.

Jadakiss is coming to Toad's Place in New Haven tonight. The rapper has been among hip-hop's upper echelons for nearly a decade. He's released three solo albums and has worked with everyone from Biggie to DMX and Jay Z and 50 Cent.

His lyrics have even attracted the ire of Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly, who labeled him a "smear merchant" due to the lyrics in the song "Why?," which states Jada's belief that President George W. Bush coordinated the September 11th attacks.

It promises to be an entertaining and enlightening concert. The show doesn't start until 11 p.m., so I recommend a nap beforehand (just don't tell anyone). Tickets are $40.

Also in New Haven tonight, they'll be bringing the funny at BAR nightclub.

The Funny Stages, a evening of improv comedy, begins at 8 p.m.

The Funny Stages is one of the incarnations of the New Haven Theater Company. It's a four-show series of spontaneous music and comedy. Tonight is the last of the four shows. Their skits include "This Just in: You Choose the News, We Make it Up." (a personal favorite of every journalist!)

Perhaps you'd like to experience another form of entertainment tonight.

Head to the Buttonwood Tree in Middletown for a little Evening Oasis.

For just a $5 suggested donation, you can enjoy a night of belly dancing. Never tried it before? That's no excuse. The night features local instructors as well as other students and hobbyists.

And that's just scratching the surface folks. Use your hump-day wisely and explore what's going on in Connecticut tonight!
