Woman Steals Gifts From Right Under Santa's Nose

There's naughty, and then there's naughty right in front of Santa.

A woman is seen on tape walking into the lobby of Milford Hospital and swiping two baskets full of gifts from a Christmas raffle, police said.

It happened right in front of a statue of Santa. Surveillance cameras captured the theft, Officer Vaughan Dumas said.

In this video, the woman can be seen walking past Santa's sleigh, then returning, rifling through its contents and then carrying away a gift basket included as part of the raffle.  She also might have attempted to take Wii video games, police said.  The total gift theft is valued at $325.

What's more, the $39 red jacket she is also holding was reported stolen from the gift shop by hospital employees.

"She had been in the gift shop a week before the theft on December 4," said Dumas.  It was gift shop employees who recognized her from the video.  "They suspected her of stealing something then."

Police have been searching for the woman since the incident, which occurred around 2 p.m. on Dec. 4.

She is described as between 30 and 40 years old, with brown hair, a green jacket and stocky build.
