Hometown Homerun for Child in Need

Jonathan Gionfriddo is just like any other 10-year-old boy, except for one thing. Jonathan is bandaged from head to toe.

Gionfriddo suffers from a rare skin disorder called RDEB (Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa). It makes his skin as fragile as a butterfly’s wings.  It doesn’t slow this 10-year-old down though.  He’s got things to do.

“I pretty much love to watch TV, relax and go to sleep,” said Jonathan Gionfriddo.

He doesn’t know it, but Jonathan made a huge impression on a member of the New Britain Rock Cats team.  Paul Krish doesn’t drive in any runs, but he does drive the team around from city to city as the team’s bus driver.

“He took my heart.  We lost our son in 1997 in a car accident and my wife, Dale, has been driving him.  We finally met the family and he just stole my heart,” said Paul Krish.

Now, Krish is doing what he can to raise awareness about Jonathan’s disease and help Jonathan’s family with medical bills.

Thanks to his connections, the Rock Cats are now going to bat for Jonathan.  There will be a fundraiser at Saturday’s game against the Trenton Thunder.  There will be a raffle, balloons and a chance to meet Jonathan.

Krish hopes to raise around $3,000, so that the family can buy a special walk-in bathtub for Jonathan.

The game starts at 6:35 p.m.
