Danbury Fire Displaces Four

An early morning fire displaced four people in Danbury Saturday.

A neighbor at the Village Square condominium complex at 93 Park Avenue reported seeing smoke coming from the attic of one of the nearby units shortly after 3 a.m., said Stephen Williams assistant chief for the Danbury Fire Department.

The occupants inside of the unit were asleep at the time of the fire and had to be escorted out by emergency crews. All four residents of the home were safely evacuated and no one was injured, said Williams.

The fire was isolated to the attic of the home and took about 30 minutes for firefighters to get under control. Due to the significant smoke and water damage to the home, all four residents have been displaced.

About four other units nearby also sustained minor smoke and damage due to the fire. None of those residents were hurt or displaced, said Williams.

A hole had to be cut into the roof for ventilation and crews remained on scene to do extensive overhaul work until about 6 a.m.

Williams said that smoke detectors were in the condo, but because the fire occurred in the attic, which is normally unoccupied, residents were not immediately alerted to the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it appears to be accidental at this time.
