Charles Mark Rochlin, 24, of Westport, was a passenger in the SUV that struck a tree on Greens Farms Road in Westport early Sunday morning. The Marine had returned home in September after a seven-month tour in Iraq, according to police.
The driver, 25-year-old Matthew Packer of Westport, was being treated at Norwalk Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the one-vehicle accident remains under investigation.
Rochlin's family wrote in his obituary that he graduated from Staples High School in 2003 and enlisted in the Marines in March 2008. He was currently stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
