Mistaken Identity Leads to Beating: Cops

Couple goes after wrong teen after a purse snatching.

A case of mistaken identity has led to an arrest in Waterbury and a teen with a broken leg.

It all started on Thursday afternoon with a purse snatching, police said.

As a 23-year old woman was walking into 182 W. Main Street to visit her boyfriend, a man snatched her purse and ran, according to the Republican-American,

The woman and her boyfriend, Danny Torres, jumped into a car and went looking for the suspect.

They found a 17-year old who they thought was the purse snatcher walking along Prospect Street and. Police said, Torres hit  the teen with his car, grabbed a baseball bat and threatened to kill the boy.

When police showed up, they determined that the teen had nothing to do with the theft.

Torres was charged with second-degree assault and second-degree threatening.
