Tiara Key to Finding Home Invaders

Meriden police are searching for 2 masked men who forced their way into a home on Camp Street and held the family inside captive.

Police say the two suspects held a grandmother and her 3-year-old grandchild at gunpoint before locking them in the bathroom and ransacking the place in broad daylight.

“They took everything.  The TV, VCR, jewelry, money, everything they have,” said Kamal Rahman, the cousin of the victim.

Detectives say no one was hurt, but the family is still shaken.  At this point, police believe the family was targeted.

“It appears it was a well-organized crime and not a spur of the moment crime,” said Lt. Michael Merrigan, a Meriden Police detective.

Investigators are now looking for a 24-karat gold kids tiara.  It’s a unique piece of jewelry that could turn up in a local pawnshop.  In all, more than $10,000 worth of stuff was taken including thousands in cash.

Neighbors called the news unnerving.

“My husband called home and said to make sure the windows are locked, the doors are locked, the screen doors are locked.  We just have to take a lot of precautions,” said Yolanda Gonzalez of Meriden.
