Shelton Water Main Repaired

A water main break that send water gushing into Shelton streets was repaired around 4:00 a.m. Saturday, police said.

The 16-inch water main broke on Armstrong Road in Shelton around 5 p.m. Friday and sent water flowing into the roadway.

"There was a lot of water on the sides of the road, and I walked up a little bit further, I saw the asphalt was coming up, and it was just seeping through that," said Andrea Bruzenak of Shelton.

The water tore up a section of Armstrong Road and left 300 homes without water for hours. The D'Amico family, who lives on nearby Sterling Ridge Road, says it disrupted dinner time.

"There was no water. It's really something when you go to turn on the faucet, and there's nothing there, so it was disruptive," said Lori D'Amico.

Aquarion Water Company crews were able to restore the water flow by 8:00 p.m. using a different pump, while they worked on repairing the water main break and the damage it left on the roadway.

Cones blocked off Armstrong Road between Bridgeport Avenue to North Peters Lane, so drivers had a hard time navigating their way home.

"I live right down the road over here, so I wanted to see what was going on. And they said we can't get down the road. They said if I wanted to get back to my house, I'd have to park in the parking lot over here and walk down," said Bruzenak.

"I couldn't get through on the other end of the street, so I drove all the way around. I was coming down this way and they wouldn't let me through either, so I parked my car at Stop and Shop. I'm going to get it now," said Normal Belair of Shelton.

The Aquarion Water Company said customers may notice discoloration in the water, so they should run the water until it looks clear.
