Injured Trooper Rescues Woman From Burning Car

An injured state police trooper rescued a woman from a burning car Saturday on I-95 in Orange after a two-car crash.

The trooper  was investigating another accident on I-95 northbound when his vehicle  was struck  from behind  by another car between exits 41 and 42 around 4 p.m., according to Lt. J. Paul Vance Jr., spokesperson for the Connecticut state police.

The impact from the collision caused the trooper's vehicle to strike him, throwing the trooper into another stopped car and caused the woman's car that struck the trooper's vehicle to catch fire, said Vance.

The injured  trooper cut the woman's seat belt and removed her from her burning vehicle.

She was semi-conscious at the time, according to Vance.

The woman,  trooper and the driver who was injured in the original accident were all transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, said Vance.

Crews from Orange and West Haven  assisted state police with the call.

A southbound lane was closed for a short while in order to allow crews to work on the scene.

One northbound lane has reopened while the other two northbound lanes remain closed.
