The holidays won’t be the same this year for Grant Johnson. The Bridgeport man will be spending Christmas in a jail cell after police say they discovered two holiday presents were mailed to him from Los Angeles -- containing 22 pounds of marijuana.
Two "suspicious boxes" caught the eye of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. According to authorities, the white boxes were wrapped and addressed to two vacant apartments in Bridgeport – a sure giveaway - one on Kossuth Street and the other on Orchard Street.
Johnson, 28, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of more than four ounces of marijuana, according to the Connecticut Post.
Officers staked out the two vacant apartments and waited for the mail to be delivered. Soon after, they say Johnson pulled up to the Orchard Street location in a BMW sport utility vehicle. A few minutes later, cops say they saw Johnson put the box into his vehicle and drive to Kossuth Avenue to pick up the second package. That’s when he was arrested. Police say, one of the packages held 12 pounds of marijuana. The other contained 10 pounds.
