Little Leaguers Play World's Longest Baseball Game

Pint-size sluggers go for 101 innings

We wonder if they had a 97th-inning stretch.

A Boston Little League team ran the bases for 36 hours straight this weekend, breaking the record for the longest baseball game ever played, the Boston Globe reported.

About 800 ballplayers aged 5 to 15 from Wrentham, Mass., played 101 innings in a row, beginning at 8:01 a.m. Saturday morning and wrapping up at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

The final score for the 36-hour game was 348-339.

"What started out as a quest to break this record has become the most unique community event that I've ever been a part of," said T-ball coach Jim Lucas, who organized the game.

The epic matchup was played at a local community center and turned into a fundraising events for local charities like the March of Dimes and the Wrentham Food Bank.

The longest game on record before this weekend was 32 hours, 29 minutes.
