Employees complained, OSHA got involved and a New York company might have to pay thousands of dollars in fines.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited a New York developer for 18 alleged violations of health and safety standards at a building site in New Haven.
OSHA began inspecting on June 11 in response to complaints by State Assets LLC of Brooklyn. Now, the company faces $48,100 in proposed fines.
The inspection found that State Assets did not monitor the work site to determine how much asbestos workers were exposed to, did not establish asbestos removal areas and did not provide employees with required respirators, eye protection and protective clothing, OSHA officials said.

There were also several electrical-related hazards, according to OSHA.
State Assets has 15 business days to meet with OSHA or contest the allegations.
