Hundreds Take a Dip in the Applicant Pool

The Holiday Inn and CoCo Key indoor water park in Waterbury is one of the few bright spots in an otherwise grim job outlook.  Thursday afternoon they held a job fair ready to hire 40 to 50 new full and part-time workers.

Hotel managers expected a big turn out.  By early evening, close to 800 people had filled out applications, many interviewing on the spot.

Kate Terricciano, Holiday Inn “ Considering this economy I can’t say I’m surprised,” said Kate Terricciano, Marketing Manager for Holiday Inn and CoCo Key.  “But in a way I am surprised because we have had a ton of people here.   “

Several of those waiting in line say they’ve been job hunting for months with now luck.

“ The economy is horrible now and the jobs are very limited,” said Ashley Thompson, one of the hundreds of job seekers.  “So you just have to be persistent, focus and hope for the best.”

The hotel and water park is hiring for 11 different jobs, from birthday party planners at the water park to bellmen at the hotel.
