Store Owner Calls for Help

Like many other storeowners in Connecticut, Southbury’s Tony Scheessele is struggling. But what sets him apart from other small business owners around the area is a piece of cardboard that sits outside his shop.

“Please Help!! We Need Your Business Now,” reads the cardboard sign sitting in front of Scheessele’s shop, South Britain Country Store.

"I probably should have brought them out a long time ago," Scheessele told the Waterbury Republican-American. "I have no other way to keep my business open. I'm fighting to exist here. We're not asking for a handout. We just want people to give us their business."

He also keeps copies of a letter he has written to his customers that asks to help his business stay alive.

Scheessele told the Republican-American he estimates his sales have tailed off 60 percent in the last two years.
