GOP Calls for Investigation Into Governor's Race

The drawn out race for governor might not be over. The GOP plans to ask for an investigation into the election that took three days to call.

Chris Healy, chairman of the state Republican party, was on WTIC-AM radio with Jim Vicevich on Monday morning, the Hartford Courant reports, and said he will ask the U.S. Attorney's office and the new secretary of the state to look into the election.

"I'll make a little news here,'' Healy said, according to the Courant. "We are going to formally ask for an investigation from the federal authorities - in writing. ... We're going to ask the U.S. Attorney to look into it. We're going to ask the state to look into it. I'm going to ask the new secretary of the state to look into it.''

The state GOP Web site has for days posted a sign up for volunteers for a potential recount.

Meanwhile, Republican State Sen. Kevin Witkos, who represents Avon and Canton, has asked for an investigation into use of Reverse 911 to alert voters on Election Day in the Democratic stronghold of Bridgeport that polls would stay open for an extra two hours after polling locations ran out of ballots.

Healy blamed the Democratic registrars for the ballot shortage and called the election "a complete farce,'' the Courant reports.

"This is no way to run a railroad - much less an election,'' Healy said.

Democrat Dan Malloy was declared the winner on Friday.

Republican Tom Foley has not conceded and will hold a news conference on Monday afternoon to discuss his plans.
