Middlesex Hospital Puts Restrictions on Hospital Visits Due to Flu

Middlesex Hospital is now limiting who can visit patients at the hospital because of the flu, which is widespread in Connecticut, as well as the rest of the continental United States.

The restrictions are effective immediately and anyone with flu-like symptoms will not be allowed to visit patients at the hospital. Hospital officials said symptoms can include having a fever, vomiting and coughing, diarrhea, body aches and headaches.

Middlesex Hospital will only allow immediate family members or a designated support person to visit patients.

No more than two people can visit a patient at a time and no one under the age of 18 will be allowed unless special permission is granted.

Anyone who does visit a patient at the hospital must clean his or her hands.

The flu has contributed to 52 deaths and 1,154 hospitalizations in Connecticut this season.
