Reducing Cholesterol While Eating Out

Lowering your cholesterol that’s one way to reduce your risk of having a heart attack or getting heart disease.

Many of us enjoy eating out and there are ways to make healthy choices when doing it.

If you’re trying a new restaurant, take time to study the menu. Many restaurants offer low-fat, low cholesterol meals.

Have the server remove the temptations from the table. You really don’t need the butter for your bread.

Drink two full glasses of water before your food arrives.

Order foods that are steamed, broiled or grilled instead of fried. If you get a potato with your meal, opt to have it baked, boiled or roasted instead of fried. Of course, leave off the butter and sour cream.

Is there is a salad with your meal, use a squeeze of lemon instead of dressing on salads, or try rice vinegar or balsamic vinegar.

If you must have dessert, order sorbet or fresh fruit, without whipped cream or a topping.

These tips for eating out may sound simple, but doctors say making subtle changes in your life can help reduce your risks.
