Free and Low-Cost Mammograms

Mammograms are proven to detect breast cancer in women.  And now is your chance to get one for free!  Or at least for a reduced cost.

The free and low cost mammograms are offered by St. Vincent's Hospital for women age 35 and older.

In March, three locations will be set up for the screenings:

  • March 19th from 11am to 2pm at Fairfield University in the Barone Campus Center in Fairfield
  • March 23rd from 9am to 1pm at the Stratford Health Department in Stratford
  • March 25th from 9am to 1pm at the Carriage Green at Milford in Milford

The mammograms are free for those who do not have health insurance, have financial limitations and qualify for assistance. For those who do not have insurance but do not qualify for free services, mammograms are discounted.

Appointments are necessary and you need to bring a doctor's order and insurance card to the appointment.  To set up an appointment call St. Vincent’s SWIM Women’s Imaging Center at (203) 576-5500.

The American Cancer Society recommends that all women have a mammogram by age 40, and then every year thereafter. The American Cancer Society says getting a mammogram will detect breast cancers early, when they’re easier to treat and chances are higher for survival.

If you aren’t 40, the ACS says women in their 20’s and 30’s should have a clinical breast exam as part of a regular exam by a health expert, preferably every 3 years.
