Dodd Banks on TV Ad to Boost Image

Hoping some presidential praise will give him a lift in the polls, Senator Chris Dodd is airing his first 2010 re-election TV commercial.

The 30-second ad features President Obama complimenting Connecticut's longest serving Senator for his work on the credit card reform bill that the President signed into law on May 22.

Dodd is the Senate's Banking Committee Chairman.

The spot airs for one week and will cost Dodd's re-election campaign $100,000.

The five-term Senator trails republican challenger, former US Rep. Rob Simmons 45 percent to 39 percent in the 2010 Senate race, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

Update, 6:19 p.m.:  We're told big pharma is purchasing ads, too -- thanking Dodd for health care reform.
