Police ID Man Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on Route 2 in Glastonbury

Police have identified the man who died in a wrong-way crash on Route 2 in Glastonbury on Monday morning.

Officers said a tractor-trailer truck was traveling east on Route 2 eastbound around 4:30 a.m. A car that was traveling the wrong way, driving westbound in the eastbound lanes, then collided with a tractor-trailer truck about two miles west of exit 10.

The driver of the tractor-trailer truck sustained minor injuries and was taken to Hartford Hospital.

The driver of the car, later identified as 27-year-old Christian L. Alvarez Villarini, of Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The crash completely closed Route 2 eastbound between exits 8 and 9 for hours.

Officers said the left two lanes are closed and the right lane is open using the breakdown shoulder, but police believe there may be periods of full lane closures.

There is no estimate for when the highway will fully reopen.

The State Police reconstruction team was called to the crash. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was also called to clean up a fuel spill.

The crash remains under investigation. Any witnesses are asked to contact Troop H at (860) 534-1000.
