A 28-year-old woman was shot and killed in New Haven Monday morning and her boyfriend has been charged with murder, risk of injury of a child and criminal possession of a firearm, according to police.
Police said the shooting happened around 9:15 a.m. in the area of Clifton Street and Lenox Street and they found Alessia Mesquita, of New Haven, in the street. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident began as a domestic dispute in a vehicle on Clifton Street, according to police. The dispute involved Mesquita and her boyfriend, 27-year-old Rashod Newton.
Mequita got out of the vehicle, and that's when she was shot, police said.
