1 Dead in East Haven Fire

Another person escaped the flames.

One person was killed in a early morning fire in East Haven Friday.

Firefighters responded to a home at 78 Hemingway Avenue just before 6 a.m. After making their way into the house, firefighters found a man dead in a second-floor corridor, according to police. 

The victim's identity was not released, pending notification of his family.

There were four apartments in the house, according to police.  Two people were home at the time of the fire, one was able to escape.

According to investigators, the fire began near the back of the home on the ground floor.  It does not appear suspicious, investigators said.

The State Fire Marshal was called to help in the investigation.
