The man accused of a high-speed chase on Route 9 South early Wednesday morning is being held on $60,000.
The police pursuit began around 3 a.m. when Meriden police received a report of three stolen cars.
Officers chased two of the alleged car thieves but ended the pursuit. Then a state trooper saw the third car on Route 9 South.
The driver has been identified as Jose Gonzalez and police said the chase reached speeds of up to 90 miles per hour. He has convictions in 2009 and 2010 and three pending matters at GA 15 in New Britain for possession of narcotics, possession with intent to sell and possession within distance of a school.
He is currently out on probation and a total of $150,000 in bonds.
Police said Gonzalez crashed the car in the area of exit 10, but the chase was not over.
Gonzalez ran to a property in Higganum, where he is accused of stealing another car -- brand new pickup owned by Aaron Henkind, according to police.
"I don't know the details, if he broke in or what happened. All I know is that it's gone," Henkind said.

Eventually, Gonzalez drove over stop sticks, which deflated the tires and stopped on the Haddam/Chester line, around exit 7.
Gonzalez has been charged with several violations, including engaging police in a pursuit and first-degree larceny. He is next due in court on Nov. 7.
Henkind said he is working on getting his truck back and is thankful the situation was not worse.
