Portland Man Killed in Middletown Industrial Accident

A 40-year-old Portland man has died after he was hit by steel on Friday morning while working at Kloeckner Metals on Route 3 in Middletown, according to police. Police have identified him as Jason Strycharz.

The accident happened around 8:45 a.m. at 760 Newfield Street. 

Middletown police, firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene and rushed Strycharz to Middlesex Hospital, where he died, according to police.

"They were in the process of moving some steel around inside the warehouse part of the building, and somehow the steel got swinging. It was on a crane inside the warehouse and it struck one of the employees," said Fire Marshal Albert Santostefano.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Middletown Police Department are investigating.

Primary Steel is also located at the address and police previously said the incident happened there.
