Waterbury Children Charged In Bus Incident

Girl, 12, Boy, 11 Face Risk of Injury Charges

Two children have been charged in the “inappropriate” and “sexual" incident that happened on a Generali School bus earlier this month.

On Wednesday, a 12-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy surrendered at the Waterbury Police Department to face charges of risk of injury to a minor.  They were released to their parents and will be tried in juvenile court, according to the Republican-American.

On October 2, an 11-year-old fifth grader coerced a kindergarten girl to "remove an article of clothing" on the bus ride home, while 11 other children laughed and egged him on.

The students were suspended then transfered to other schools so the victim would not have to encounter them again.  The boy faces expulsion.

Police spokesman Lt. Christopher Corbett would not say why the 12-year-old girl was charged and other suspended students were not. Corbett said he could not disclose further details because the unnamed girl is a minor, according to the Republican-American.

The newspaper also reported some students indicated the kindergarten student may have been victimized during a previous bus ride.
