Firefighters from 16 fire departments responded to a brush fire in Lakeville Tuesday afternoon.
The fire at 129 Long Pond Road was first reported around 2:30 p.m., according to Litchfield County dispatchers.
The Lakeville Fire Chief said the fire burned more than 50 acres of brushy swamp area off of Long Pond Road. It is still burning at this time deep inside the swamp where firefighters are unable to access it, he said.
The fire started as a controlled burn that got out of control. It was brought under control after about an hour, officials said.
Fire officials said they will remain at the scene overnight to monitor the fire as it burns out.
