19-Year-Old Shot Man in Leg After Argument in Stratford: Police

Stratford Police have arrested a 19-year-old after a shooting on Saturday night.

Officers responded to a report of an assault and shots fired on Wiklund Avenue around 10:45 p.m. The caller told police that someone had been shot at the residence.

Investigators said 19-year-old Davonte Whitehurst, of Bridgeport, shot a man in the leg after a brief verbal argument. The man received non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

According to police, the victim is the ex-boyfriend of the girl that Whitehurst was visiting. The victim showed up at the residence uninvited and possibly started the confrontation.

Whitehurst fled the scene on foot before officers arrived.

While en route, police spotted him running on Wiklund Avenue near Canaan Road. He was stopped by officers, where the gun was recovered. He was detained before being arrested.

Whitehurst is facing charges including criminal attempt at murder, assault, breach of peace, unlawful discharge of a firearm, reckless endangerment and carrying a pistol without a permit. His bond was set at $250,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court on October 31.
