A 1-month-old baby boy is in police custody after being abducted by his mother Thursday, Waterford Police said.
The baby, Xzavion Nobleza, appeared fine and was wrapped in warm clothing and blankets, police said. Extra baby supplies, including diapers and formula, had also been left with the child.
Police are still searching for Deahenna Nobleza, a New London woman who police said abducted her son around 5:30 p.m. Thursday from the Crystal Mall during a supervised Department of Children and Families visit. She has been charged with custodial interference and risk of injury to a minor.
A family friend convinced Nobleza to turn the baby in, Waterford police said.
The baby was in state custody because of his mother’s known associates and run-ins with the law, police said. DCF officials said the baby was not with a DCF worker during the visit but was with a private provider contracted by the state.
Nobleza is likely still in the area, police said.
