Emergency crews responded to 24 South St. in Canton for a two-alarm fire on Friday morning.
Richard Hutchings, chief of the Canton Fire Department, said the fire started as a porch fire, then worked its way up into the attic, where there was nothing to stop it from spreading.
The homeowner inhaled smoke, but there were no other injuries.
